Barron Trump: A Look at Donald Trump’s Youngest Son

Barron Trump, born on March 20, 2006, is Donald Trump’s youngest son. He grew up in the White House but mostly kept a low profile. After Donald married Melania in 2005, they learned they were expecting Barron, their first child together. He spent much of his childhood in New York City, attending private schools on the Upper West Side. Barron moved to Washington, D.C., in 2017 after Donald became president, enrolling at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.

Throughout Donald’s presidency, Barron remained out of the spotlight, declining public roles. During his father’s 2024 campaign, Barron attended his first rally but largely stayed behind the scenes. After graduating high school in May 2024, he enrolled at New York University. In January 2025, Barron joined his family for Donald’s second-term inauguration.

In 2005, about six months after their wedding, Donald and Melania learned they were expecting their first child together. Reflecting on the moment she shared the news with Donald, Melania revealed that her husband was initially surprised.

“He came home one day last August, and I told him he’d be a daddy. His reaction was… at first, he needed a moment to process it. It was a real surprise. Then he was very happy,” she told PEOPLE.

Donald added, “I expected we would have children, so I wasn’t completely surprised. But I was surprised by how quickly it happened.”

Melania gave birth to Barron on March 20, 2006. Donald decided not to be present in the delivery room, believing it would be “easier” for Melania if he wasn’t there. However, Melania later shared that her eight-hour labor was actually “very, very easy.”

“Everyone’s perfect. She’s really happy, and it’s really great,” Donald told PEOPLE after Barron’s birth.

Donald picked Barron’s name, as it was one he had always liked but hadn’t used for his other sons. Melania agreed to the name, but just before finalizing it, Donald had second thoughts.

“It’s a name I’ve always loved but never had the courage to use. I suggested it to Melania, but I almost took it away at the last minute. She said, ‘You can’t take it away! I’ve been calling him Barron while he’s been in my stomach, and you just can’t take it away!’” Donald recalled on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

He studied in New York, Maryland, and Florida.

Barron Trump’s Education Journey: From NYC to Palm Beach

As Barron grew up, he attended several prestigious schools. While living in New York City, he enrolled at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. After Donald began his presidential term in January 2017, Barron stayed in New York and finished the school year there.

In his final year at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, Barron took his entire fifth-grade class on a trip to Washington. About 80 students, along with teachers and Secret Service agents, joined Barron on the excursion to the White House, where they met his father. The group also toured the nation’s capital and stayed overnight at a hotel before returning home.

In May 2017, the Trumps announced that Barron would attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. The annual tuition at St. Andrew’s was around $40,000. Barron’s enrollment at the school marked a break from the tradition followed by previous first families, such as the Obamas, Bushes, and Clintons, who had sent their children to Sidwell Friends, a private Quaker school in D.C. and Bethesda, Maryland.

After Donald’s presidential term ended in 2021, the Trumps revealed that Barron would attend Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, where he graduated with the class of 2024.

When Donald Trump was first elected president, he revealed that Barron was hesitant to leave his life in New York and move to the White House. Despite the challenges, Donald reassured him that the move would help others. Melania, in turn, respected Barron’s wishes and set up a room for him at the White House during Donald’s second term, while Barron attended NYU.

While in office, Barron faced online bullying, with Chelsea Clinton defending him on social media, urging others to let him enjoy his childhood. Jenna Bush Hager also spoke out, criticizing the attacks and emphasizing that Barron never asked for his father to run for president.

He speaks both English and Slovenian

As a young boy, Melania recalls that Barron would often call his grandmother and speak to her solely in Slovenian. While Melania supported Barron speaking multiple languages, she mentioned that she and her husband were in agreement about which language Barron should use in public.

“My opinion is that more languages you speak, better it is, but when you come to America, you speak English,” she told PEOPLE.

Melania is deeply protective of him.

Throughout her modeling career and later as First Lady, Melania Trump was known for her privacy. After Donald left office in 2021, sources told PEOPLE that Melania remained private, focusing on her family, especially Barron.

“Melania’s friends are mainly family members,” a source shared in 2023. “She’s always surrounded herself with family. She’s a doting and protective mother to Barron.”

Melania’s parents, who moved to Mar-a-Lago, played a key role in Barron’s upbringing. Sadly, Melania’s mother, Amalija Knavs, passed away in January 2024.

In March 2024, a source told PEOPLE that Melania’s main priority was caring for Barron. “She’s been a great mother to Barron, who is shy and reserved.

By December 2024, sources revealed that Melania continues to be Barron’s “sounding board,” offering support and trying to shield him from public scrutiny. “She worries about the hate directed at him, and they discuss how they live in the spotlight,” a source said.

As for Barron’s growth, Donald shared in January 2024 that his son now stands at 6 feet, 7 inches tall. He humorously attributed Barron’s height to the meals his late grandmother, Amalija, made for him. Donald even joked, “I told him he’s going to be a basketball player, but he prefers soccer.”

In July 2024, Barron joined his father on the campaign trail. While in Doral, Fla., Donald mentioned from the podium that it was his son’s first-ever rally.

“You’re pretty popular, he might be more popular than Don and Eric,” he said. “So Barron, it’s good to have you. [He’s] had such a nice, easy life. Now, it’s a little bit changed.”

He studies at New York University.

On September 4, 2024, NYU security officers confirmed to PEOPLE that Barron had arrived at the Manhattan college.

In an interview with Fox News that same month, Melania shared that it was Barron’s choice to attend school in New York and live in the family’s Manhattan tower.

“It was his decision to come here, to study and live in New York, and I respect that,” she said.

In December 2024, a source told PEOPLE that Barron had become “popular with the ladies” on campus.

“He’s tall and handsome. A lot of people seem to think he’s pretty attractive — yes, even liberal people like him,” they said.
